PRODUCTION SETUP FOR 469DU SYSTEMS w/ Windows 2000	BKT & RLL 23-Feb-02

Note: Most of this procedure also applies to any W2k-PC/PowerPC-based system.

Windows 2000 INSTALLATION AND SETUP:

Note: Do not install the 3Com Ethernet card yet.

1) Most computers will auto-install the operating system from disk images provided
by the manufacturer when power is turned on for the first time.

2) With Windows 2000 installed, the motherboard Ethernet Interface has already been
configured. Go to the Start/Settings/Network and Dial-up Connections menu
	and find:

		Local Area Connection

Click on this and get a panel where you can click on "Properties" button,
which calls another panel where you can select what components are used by
the connection. If the NetBEUI Protocol is NOT installed, then install this
feature 1st. When the s/w asks for disk, say "c:\i386" and the protocol will
be installed from the disk images. After installation, disable NetBEUI for
this adapter by clicking off the check mark. Make sure that the Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked. Also, check the mark in the lower left hand
corner of the panel that says: Show icon in taskbar when connected.

We will set up the TCP/IP parameters later.

3) Log on to Windows 2000 as administrator. How this is done varies according
	to manufacturer. For Compaq:
	User: Administrator
Password:	<CR> (no password defined; just hit carriage return)

Dell computers use Administrator and admin.

4) For COMPAQ Computers, change the log-in password:

Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Users and Passwords, click on
Administrator under User Name list. Then click on the button below
the User name(s) window labeled "Set Password" Then follow the
directions to change the password to "admin".

3COM ETHERNET CARD INSTALLATION:

Note: The 3Com card is used to connect to a host network.

1) BEFORE Inserting the 3Com Ethernet Card, run the pre-installation s/w on the
included CD-ROM. IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT TO DO THIS FIRST!

2) Turn OFF computer, insert card next to OEM ethernet card.

3) Boot, wait for Windows 2000 to re-boot and find the hardware. Then, run the
install process from the 3Com CD-ROM to install drivers.

4) You may or may not have to re-boot at this point. Dell has to re-boot.

5) Now under the Start/Settings/Network and Dial-up Connections menu and find:

		Local Area Network #2

Enable NetBEUI for this adapter and you can connect to the local network.
Local Area Network #1 is going to the PowerPC.

It is a good idea to check the box for network connection icon on the taskbar
so you can see what's working and what's not.

TCP/IP SETUP:

Note: The OEM ethernet adapter is used to connect to the Power PC rather than
the 3Com ethernet adapter. This is because only the OEM ethernet adapter
software allows auto network speed negotiation to be disabled.

1) Go to Start/Settings/Network and Dial-up Connections menu and find:

		Local Area Network #1

Click on the icon and select properties.

	Disable NetBEUI Protocol if enabled.

Click on TCP/IP Protocol and then click on Properties Button.

2) IP Address tab:
Adapter: Compaq 10 or 10/100 PCI Intel Controller
	Specify an IP address:
		IP Address: 148.150.203.190
		Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
		Default Gateway:	(leave blank)

4) Back at Local Area Connection Properties, select Compaq 10 or 10/100 PCI
Intel Controller, press Configure and then set:

		Network Speed: 100Mbps
		Duplex Mode: Half

MICROSOFT PEER WEB SERVICES SETUP:

1) Go to Control Panels, Add/Remove Programs, and select

		Add/Remove Windows Components

When panel appears, select Internet Information Services to install
(This contains the required FTP service and the MS Peer Web Server)

Insert the Windows 2000 CD (may also be available on the Restore CD)
	and install.

3) Change FTP Publishing Directory to:	c:\469DU\bin.

	Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Internet Services.
Left-click on Default FTP Site listing & select Properties.
Select Home Directory Tab and enter default directory (c:\469DU\bin).
Select Security Accounts Tab and click OFF the allow anonymous connections.

4) Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management
/System Tools/Local Users and Groups/Users, and select New User under the
	Action Menu:

	Username: mts_rt
	Password: mts_rt
	Confirm Password: mts_rt
User Must Change Password ... off
	User Cannot Change Password: on
	Password Never Expires: on
	Account Disabled: off

Go to Groups under Computer Management and make sure that the mts_rt user is
a member of administrator; if not, click Add to add it to that group.

BIOS SETUP: Remove annoying "features". Varies according to manufacturer.

For Compaq: Boot, and press f10 to get into bios setup mode.
	a) Power menu, Energy saver item:
		Energy saver mode: Disable
	b) Security menu, Smart Cover item:
		Cover Lock: Unlock
